§ 6-8. Duties of sexton; register of interments.

  • (a)

    The city sexton shall have charge of and preserve from injury the city cemeteries, dig and fill graves, and give directions as to the portion of the city cemeteries in which indigent persons shall be buried. He shall, further, keep the grass cut in the streets and alleys around all lots, either public or private, keep the gate and fences in good repair, and keep the trees on the cemetery grounds free from sprouts and dead limbs. He shall also be a conservator of the peace.

    (b)

    The city sexton shall keep a register of interments containing the date of interment, the name, age, place of birth and residence of the person buried, the disease or other cause of death, and the physician in attendance, designating the number of the lot or place of interment.

    (c)

    The city sexton shall cause to be prosecuted all persons who shall be guilty of the violation of any ordinance of the city in relation to the cemetery that may come to his knowledge.
