§ 14-176. Abandonment of premises.

  • Whenever any premises used as a junkyard or for automobile wrecking or dismantling shall cease to be used for such purpose, the owner or lessee, or the personal representative of any deceased owner or lessee, shall, upon demand of the chief of police or the mayor, proceed at once to remove all cars, parts of cars, junk, rubbish and all material used or kept in the operation of such junk or auto wrecking business, including fences required by this article in the operation of a junkyard or auto wrecking business, and place the premises in a neat, clean and sightly condition. If such owner, lessee or personal representative shall, upon such demand, fail or refuse to comply with the provisions of this section within ten days, then such premises, the condition of which remains unabated, are hereby declared to be a public nuisance, and such nuisance may be abated as other nuisances under the provisions of this Code providing for abatement of nuisances in the city, and such owner, lessee or personal representative shall be subject to punishment as provided in section 1-11 of this Code for each day that he shall fail or refuse to remove such materials or place the premises in a neat, clean and sightly condition.
